POSITION OVERVIEW: The R&D Technician will support the R&D team by conducting all aspects of prototype construction, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation. This individual will work closely with senior engineers in cross-functional teams to assist in R&D projects from concept through transfer to manufacturing.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prototyping
    • Work with engineers, machinists, and designers to create working prototypes, specifications, and drawings for new products and product revisions.
  • Testing and Documentation:
    • Complete specialized studies or experiments culminating in written reports as needed.
    • Effectively communicate finding and results to other team members.
    • Maintain an accurate lab notebook and record of assignments and results.
  • Process Development:
    • In conjunction with manufacturing staff, identify tooling, machines, and fixtures which optimize the manufacturing processes. 
    • Assist with the manufacturing phase-in of new products and product changes. Train assemblers when transferring products to manufacturing. 
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work closely with engineers and other team members to support project goals.
    • Update supervisor of work status or problems with recommendations for improvement or correction. 
  • Compliance:
    • Maintain and support Quality System regulations in coordination with Document Control, Clinical, and Quality Assurance functions. 
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate equivalent required. AA in a technical field preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 4+ years of experience in the medical device industry required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication equipment and methods for small-scale and tight-tolerance manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with machine tool operation and other medical device prototyping techniques.
  • Experience with mechanical drawing and knowledge of Solidworks CAD software preferred.
